What to Expect at the Initial Consultation

What-to-Expect-at-the-Initial-ConsultationDuring the initial consultation you get to meet with one of our experienced divorce and family law attorneys. We believe it is important to have a face to face meeting. We want to get to know you and understand your situation so that we can give you the best advice and define the most effective course of action. The initial consultation is a time for you to ask questions and get answers. You will learn about your legal rights, as well as the legal process. We learn what is important to you and help you to set goals. We then give you a plan of action to accomplish those goals.

It is impossible to know the exact amount of time a case will take because each case is different and there may be variables that cannot be anticipated. However, during the initial consultation we will make an honest effort to help you estimate the time, issues and costs involved in your case.

There are forms that help us to better help you with goal setting. The more information we have about your case ahead of time the more detailed our conversation can be. Before the initial consultation it is helpful if you fill out the Client Questionnaire. If there has already been litigation, please bring the legal documents with you so we can fully determine the correct process going forward. If there are children involved complete a Child Questionnaire. The Property Questionnaire is more detailed and is usually filled out after we begin your case. It helps with settlement negotiations and drafting the Decree of Divorce. Call us at 214-265-7630 or contact us online to schedule your initial consultation.
